Visitors to downtown Greenville, South Carolina will be able to get around downtown on rented bikes beginning in the Spring, it was announced yesterday.
The new service comes from a partnership between Upstate Forever and the Greenville Hospital System with additional funding support from the Greenville Transit Authority and Greenville County Recreation District. B-Cycle, a leading bike-sharing system developer has been selected to provide the Greenville B-Cycle equipment and software. B-cycle now serves 16 other cities, including Spartanburg and Charlotte.
Downtown is a joy to visit but driving on Main Street is slow going and it's a long walk from East North Street and Main to the West End. Renting a bike sounds like a convenient and affordable way to get around. There will be at least 6 bike stations and 28 bikes.
You can buy memberships nowat the B-cycle website. Plans include daily, weekly and annual membership plans plans from $5 to $60. Now through December 20th, you can buy one annual Greenville Bicycle membership at full price and you will be emailed a certificate for a free membership to give a friend, according to the Greenville B-Cycle web page.
